V S K Duraiswamy Nadar Matriculation & Hr. Sec. School

The VSK Duraiswamy Nadar English Matriculation and Hr Sec School was founded on the 13th of July, 1969 with six children. The founder Shri V.S.K Duraiswamy Nadar envisaged a school open to all girls, awarding scholarships to deserving girls from poor families, so as to make the school a public school in the true sense of the word.

The School is financed by a trust which was created by Late Shri.V.S.K.Duraiswamy Nadar during his life time. The A.S.K.R. Trust is self financing and has a regular income from its own investments. The trust is managed by the Board of Trustees which also manages the school. The school is also supported by V.S.K.Duraiswamy Nadar Trust.

Founder’s day, Sports Day, School Day are celebrated annually in the third week of January.

Pre-Kindergarten Classes

It is being run in the name of Annalakshmi Play School. Both boys and girls are admitted in P.K.G. The class is well-equipped with all kinds of play things necessary for the intellectual and Physical Development of the kids. Boys and girls below the age of 3 are admitted here.

Yeomen Service To The Middle Classes

An institution which has stood for 30 years and has been doing yeomen service, especially to the middle classes in Sivakasi, is the V.S.K.D school.

Facilities

The school has airy and adequately furnished classrooms with well-equipped laboratories, playground and garden. It has good water facilities and drainage system. The school houses approximately 440 girls. The student teacher ratio is 30:1. In addition to studies, a wide range of games, crafts, hobbies and other activities have been organized to provide an all round education for the development of the intellect, manual aesthetic skills and character.

The playgrounds contain play fields and play arenas for shuttle badminton, basketball, table tennis and other sports. The school also has solar powered lamps on the campus to create the awareness of this alternate energy source amongst the students teaching them that they too can live in harmony with the environment.

Stay-in-facility

A separate stay-in-facility, quite hygienic with all facilities for girls, is available. Vegetarian mess is provided on the basis of dividing system. This kind of stay-in-facility is the first one in a matriculation school in Sivakasi.

Computer Education

For such a Hi-tech society our management has done well in introducing Computer Education. Ours is the first and only school in Sivakasi where students from L.K.G are taught Computer Science. We offer demonstration for all subjects through multimedia and CD ROMS in a effective way. There is a proposal of maintaining a CD library in the future. Computer Skill is one of the activities that V.S.K.D provides its students.

Activities

A student of V.S.K.D has access to a wide variety of facilites. For the intellectual development, there is an excellent library, the 'Kavi Quil' Literary Association and Talent Bank. The school also offers training in a variety of sports including Basketball, Table Tennis, Volley Ball, Ball Badminton, Kho-Kho, Tennikhoit and Shuttle-cock.

Training is also offered in Karate and Indoor games such Chess and Carrom as well as outdoor games, track and field. For the aesthetically inclined, training in dance, Veena, Painting, Drawing, Playing Musical Instruments are some of the Facilities the girls enjoy.

Community Service also forms an integral part of the curriculum. Students chose from a variety of activities including tree planting, keeping a clean environment, helping the poor, orphans, handicapped and less fortunate brethren. There is a Guide Unit and a Red Cross Unit.

Religious Activities

Bhajan classes are conducted every week to inculcate spiritual outlook. It is our Founder's wish that all girls should be pious and have pride in Indian Culture and Religion. Hence we celebrate Vinayaga, Saraswathi Pooja, Karthigai Deepam and Thiruvathirai in a fitting manner.
